Baggage Policy

To protect your baggage and its contents during transport, we recommend using durable suitcases. Please attach identification tags or labels with your address and phone number to your baggage to help us locate it if it gets lost.

To safeguard your belongings and prevent loss, damage, or delay, China Airlines advises against packing fragile items, perishable goods, or valuable personal effects in your checked baggage.

For passengers carrying electronic devices with lithium batteries in their checked baggage, please ensure the following:

Protection: Take measures to protect the device from damage and prevent accidental activation. This can be done by wrapping it in cloth or other cushioning material or placing it in a rigid container.

Power Off: Ensure the device is completely turned off, not just in standby, sleep, or hibernation mode.

Note: As per Baggage Policy, Spare or loose lithium batteries not installed in equipment, including power banks, must not be packed in checked baggage. They should be carried in your carry-on baggage with appropriate measures to prevent damage and accidental activation.

To avoid injuries to handling staff, your checked baggage must not exceed 32 kg (70 lb) per piece, especially for flights to and from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, UAE, and Europe, as per local safety regulations. If your baggage exceeds this weight, you will be asked to repack it. For special items exceeding 32 kg per piece, please contact China Airlines Reservations at least 48 hours before your flight for prior approval.

If you are connecting to or from another carrier or traveling on code-shared flights operated by other airlines, the free baggage allowance may vary. Please refer to the Interline Baggage Rules for specific details.

Terms and Conditions

For passengers with tickets issued for an itinerary that includes a transfer in Taiwan (but not a stopover), your baggage will be checked through to your final destination, and you will not have the option to claim it during the layover. If you plan to enter Taiwan during your layover, please pack any personal necessities in your carry-on baggage for your convenience.

These conditions apply to tickets booked with CI/AE flight numbers or when CI/AE operates the longest sector of an interline journey.

For CI/AE code-shared flights operated by other airlines, baggage policies may vary. Special fare types (e.g., Labor/Student/Seaman) or promotional tickets that include additional free baggage allowances are subject to the specific ticket information.

Liability for checked baggage is based on the free baggage allowance specified in your ticket.

Baggage Size Information:

Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class: The sum of each bag's three measurements cannot be more than 62 inches (158 cm).

Any checked baggage (excluding pets, instruments, or sporting equipment) will be considered oversized or overweight if it exceeds the limits specified in the free baggage allowance. Additional charges will apply for oversized or overweight baggage.

For information on transporting pets, instruments, or sporting equipment as checked baggage, please refer to the relevant sections on Special Baggage and Pets on this website.
